Clinical Services

When people come to counseling, it is because they want something to be different in their lives.  They may want to change their life situations, solve a particular problem, make a decision, know themselves better, or understand what is happening in their lives.  I provide individual (one-on-one) counseling and psychotherapy to adults (18-64 years old) that emphasizes growth, development, and human potential. I believe that the relationship we develop in counseling facilitates my clients' growth and development beyond their present obstacles.  In this process, the individual departs in a journey to discover better ways to live fuller lives.

I have a deep appreciation and respect for the richness of human diversity. My clients come from different racial and ethnic backgrounds. They self-identify as straight, gay, lesbian or are questioning their sexual orientation. They are single, in committed relationships, or have families with children... In counseling, we seek to understand the uniqueness of each person's experience in their own life context.

In addition, I often seek to understand my clients' diverse spiritual experiences or philosophical principles and their significance during stressful times. I have over 12 years of professional experience assisting individuals and families to cope with life transitions and stressors as they rely on those spiritual traditions that are meaningful to them. Other individuals come struggling to find meaning again when they've been unable to find it in their own spiritual traditions or when they haven't had any to begin with... Each journey and each search is unique and I strive to be an understanding and supportive companion. In keeping with a holistic approach to mental health, I often assist my clients to live with an open heart and to deepen their relationships.

For those seeking counseling for children and adolescents, couples counseling, or family therapy, I encourage you to explore the independent counseling and psychotherapy practice of Maria I. Roman-Ruberte, MEd, EdS; one my colleagues at Office Suite 214.
